Variable Transformers are used for testing applications where variable output is required from 0 to any voltage. These kind of transformers are widely used in transformer / motor / generator manufacturing units to perform various electrical tests. The construction of these variable transformers is very simple & consists of Buck/Boost Double Wound Transformer and +/- Type linear rolling contact regulator for step-less control. Variable transformers are widely available upto 10 MVA.
